Make a will online

A will lets you decide what you want to happen to any money, property and belongings you have when you die – you choose who you want to benefit, and how.

If you have children under 18, your will lets you name the person you would trust to look after them. If you do not name someone, the courts could make this decision – and they might give the responsibility to someone you would not have chosen.

Children's details

Click on the 'Add' button to add another child. Listing your children here does not mean you’re leaving them anything in your will – we will ask for this information later.

If you die before your child is 18, their other parent will usually take full responsibility for them. If the other parent is unable to, you can decide who you would want to look after your child. They will be your child’s ‘guardian’. You do not have to choose anyone, but if you do not, the courts could decide who looks after them.

If you do not wish to name a guardian or wish to discuss this during your call, please leave this section blank.

The person must be over 18 years of age.

The people who you want to leave your things to

Your estate is made up of the things you own when you die – any property, bank accounts, savings and belongings you have.

It’s hard to predict what you will own when you die. So, rather than list all the things that you own now, you can leave your whole estate to the people of charities you choose.

If you have any sentimental items you want to pass on, or one-off cash amounts you want to leave, we will ask for details of these when we call.

The people you trust to manage your will

The people you trust to manage your will when you die are called ‘executors’.

What executors do

Executors are responsible for sorting out what you own when you die. They find details of everything you own, pay off any debts and distribute what is left. It can be complicated – there is usually legal and financial matters to sort out – and it can take months to finish everything that’s needed.

Who you can choose

You can choose between one and four executors to act at any one time. If you choose more than one, they will decide between them how to split the responsibility. Many people choose at least two executors in case the first is unable to do it. You can choose:

  • Family or friend, even if you have already named them in your will.
  • A legal professional or firm, such as JH Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

How JH Wills can help

We can be your one of your executors taking away the burden from those close to you. There’s a fee, but it’s taken from your estate after you die. We’ll explain more about this when we call so you can decide if it’s right for you.
